Rolleston township celebrated the opening of the two new artificial fields at Foster Park on Friday 13 May 2022. The artificial turfs were for hockey and football., Representatives of the Waikirikiri Hockey Club and Selwyn United Football Club spoke briefly at the ceremony, thanking Selwyn District Council and contractors for the dedication and hard work to get the turfs ready in time for the winter season. Mayor Sam Broughton extended his thanks to the hapū and rūnanga for the ongoing support. The general theme for all speeches was around legacy, active communities and wellbeing. Some inspiring kōrero.
The two turfs have been built in anticipation of not only serving the Selwyn district but also for hosting national and international level matches. The turfs were christened over the weekend with several games.
